History

Igloo Thermo-Logistics was created by Alistair Turner & Anthony Coates-Smith. Having been frustrated by the poor quality of service available for temperature controlled transport, Alistair & Anthony sought to address the issue by creating a nationwide, branded, high quality service provider offering frozen, chilled and ambient transport solutions tailored to the food & pharmaceutical industries. In August 2004, Igloo was born.

Dragons' Den

After two years of hard work and successful growth Alistair and Anthony found the market for high quality service provision was larger and more diverse than they expected. In order to grow to the size required to meet all the requests coming in from customers Alistair and Anthony pitched their business as an investment opportunity in BBC2’s infamous Dragons’ Den.

Despite a tough grilling lasting 2 hours, the high quality and success of Igloo combined with the obvious acumen of the two founders, attracted the first ever 5 dragon bidding war to be seen on the show. It resulted in Duncan Bannatyne and Richard Farleigh investing £160,000 into the company in return for 22.5% of equity in Igloo.

Igloo has since gone from strength to strength, utilizing the dragons’ investment to become the largest and best known service provider in the market. Today Igloo offers the widest range of high quality specialist refrigerated logistics services available in the UK and Western Europe, and is working with a key global partner to expand this model to a wider global market.
